U.Tirot Singh

U.Tirot Singh was a legendary Khasi chief who led an armed resistance against British who were intent on annexing Khasi territory on the pretext of constructing a road. He attacked the British garrison on April 2, 1829. He fought valiantly but was captured and deported to British jail in Dhaka where he died on July 17, 1835.
